Take Advantage of Residential Solar Incentives.
Federal Solar Investment Tax Credit for Homes
The Federal Solar ITC was established in 2005 by the Energy Policy Act. At first it was intended to last only one year, but after several extensions, this incentive will be here to stay at until 2032.
Duke Energy Solar Rebate for Homes
Homes in Duke Energy territory that install solar electric (PV) systems are eligible for a rebate from Duke Energy. The residential Duke Energy Solar Rebate is worth 40 cents per watt, up to 10,000 watts ($4,000 max rebate value).
3.2 million US homes have solar panels installed. A 2022 survey from EcoWatch indicates that 1 in 4 U.S. homeowners plan to install solar by 2028.
EV Chargers For Residential and Commercal Use
EV Charger Tax Credit:
The federal tax credit for electric vehicle chargers originally expired at the end of 2021. However, the Inflation Reduction Act’s Alternative Fuel Refueling Property tax credit extends the EV charger tax incentive for ten years — through December 31, 2032.
So, What Does That Mean for You?
Essentially, if you install a home EV charging station, the tax credit is 30% of the cost of hardware and installation, up to $1,000. Also, beginning this year (i.e., 2023), the EV charger tax credit for business and home installations applies to other EV charger equipment like bidirectional (i.e., two-way) chargers.
In the United States, more than 320 000 electric cars were sold in the first quarter of 2023, 60% more than over the same period in 2022.
Commercial Solar Incentives
Federal Business Energy Tax. Claim 30% Tax Credit Through 2033.
Commercial solar energy systems are also eligible for depreciation through the Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS). MACRS depreciation for solar projects is recovered over a 5-year schedule. Eligible solar projects placed in service prior to 1/1/2018 qualify for 50% bonus depreciation. Projects placed in service in 2018 qualify for 40% bonus depreciation, and in 2019 qualify for 30%.
North Carolina House Bill 589
NC House Bill 589 sets aside annual limits of 5MW for commercial solar projects and 2.5MW for non-profit projects; qualifying commercial projects are eligible for rebates on up to 100kW of their solar investments. Nonresidential customers could receive as much as $50,000; nonprofit customers could receive up to $75,000.
